The Hindenburg

AT 7:25pm on May 6, 1937 the Hindenburg crashed. The Hindenburg was the largest zepplin ( hydrogen-filled, metal-framed airship) It had crossed the Atlantis on its first voyage of the year when it exploded over Lakehurst New Jersey. In thirty-four seconds thirty-six people died and so did the popularity of zepplins as mass transit. Onlookers said that the first sign that anything was amiss was when a burst of flames appeared forward of the upper fin. It looked " like a mushroom shaped flower bursting speedily into bloom." It took only a matter of seconds before the flames engulfed the tail and began moving foreard. The tail was first to hit followed by the body of the ship. The spectaters were saved from the fire by a slight wind at their backs, but they were anble to feel the emense heat. Since then it seems as though the crahs has been forgotten it was just a blip in our memories. The only time you hear of it anymore is on the anniversay of the crash.
