Anne
Anne Frank
WWI ended for Germany in total defeat. An unknown man worked his way up to the position of aleader of an insignificant party in Munich.
His name was Adolf Hitler. After an unsuccessful try to overthrow the government, Hitler was placed in prison. During his prison time, Hitler wrote " Mein Kampf." (' my struggle') In his book he wrote that the German people were the best and strongest race of people. All other races were inferior. The most inferior race was the Jewish. This was irnic cinsidering he was part Jewish himself.
In 1933, Hitler as appointed Chancellor of Germany. This is marked as one of the biggest mistakes made in all of history topped, perhaps, by Pandora's box.
In September of 1939, WWII was begun. Hitler managed to succeed in the mass slaughter of most Jewish people in parts of Europe.
From all this horro and gore comes one of the sadest survival stories known to man.
Anne Frank was born in 1929 to Otto and Edith Frank. She was precede by Margot, her older sister. In the first months of 1942, a hiding place was created in an empty annex for Otto Frank and his family. Otto Frank decided that it would be best to wait and see what would happen in Germany but he decided not to take any chances. He began systematically moving furniture into the annex. In the begginning od 1942, he began removing household articles and placing them into the annex.
On July 6, 1942, the Frank family, accompanied by the van Daans and Mr. Dussel, moved into the annex. Life continued od in the annex and they tried to lead somewhat normal lives. This was curbed though because during working hours the families had to be sure not to make very much noise because some of the workers did not know they were there.
The families were helped out by Mr. Koophuis, Mr. Kraler, Miep, and Elly. They provided food bought from the blck market and underground food stamps.
On August1, 1944, Anne completed the last entry in her diary. The German police came and tok them away on August 4, 1944. It is suspected that a robber came into the building at night and heard them up there. At that time ceiminals would trade the wherabouts of hideaways in exchange for immunity of prosecution.
The Diary of Anne Frank tells of the goings on of the hideaways durin gtheir years of hiding. It discusses in intimate detail about the life of Anne. Her ambitions, her hope, her recriminations, and her tales of young love are all told in her diary. IT explained in great detail the life that they shared fro those very long 25 monthe in hiding.
Mrs. Frank died in Auschwitz. Mr van Daan was gased. Peter dieed in Maauthausen. Mrs van Daan died. Mr Dussel died in Neuengamme. Anne and Margot died within a few days of each other at Bergen-Belsum of typhus. The only one to survive was Mr Frank. When he returned to the annex, Miep, his employee and loyal frien, gave himthe papers from Anne's Diary and acting on her advice he decided to publish it.
The Annex stood empty for many year after the war. In 1957, there was talk of destroying the Annex. A number of influential citizens of Amsterdam, with the support of all Amsterdam citizens and many others, tried to preserve the house. Today the house od Prinsengracht is now called the 'Anne Frank House.'
